Las Fallas (Falles in Catalan) is the annual festival of fire in Valencia, Spain. During the months leading up to the two week festival, every neighbourhood in the city creates an elaborate statue (a Falla) made from paper, wood, styrofoam and almost anything else on the list of allowed materials. On each Falla is a Ninot, one special figure that is taken out on a parade before being mounted on the Falla. On March 19th, the final night of the festival, the Fallas are burnt requiring local firemen to damp down the buildings that surround them in order to prevent them catching fire. The Ninot from the winning Falla is saved from the burning and placed in the Museo Fallero.
